Standing Seam Metal Roofing · LockSeam
The LockSeam Metal System is built around the parts you can’t see as well as the panels: the deck and underlayment beneath them, the clips under the seams and the flashings at every wall and vent. We plan and install each with care.
Overview
Standing seam metal roofing uses long panels that run from ridge to eave, joined along seams that stand up above the flat of each panel. Concealed clips under those seams hold everything down, so no screws pierce the face of the metal. The clips also give each panel room to expand as it heats up in the afternoon sun and contract as it cools at night, which helps keep the metal from buckling or working fasteners loose over time. The result is a crisp, clean-lined roof that’s noncombustible, long-lasting and available in reflective finishes suited to Southern California heat.
Across Los Angeles and Orange County, you’ll see standing seam on everything from modern hillside homes to backyard ADUs, porch roofs and patio covers. Wherever it goes, metal shows the quality of the installation: a wavy deck or a clip fastened too tight can show up as ripples in the finished panels. Our free roof evaluation looks closely at your slope, existing flashings and how water leaves the roof, so the plan accounts for every edge, wall and vent before a single panel is ordered.

How we install a standing seam roof
Roof Evaluation and panel plan
We inspect and photo-document the roof, confirm the slope and talk through panel profile, metal and color with you. Your written scope then lists the panels, underlayment, trims and flashings, with the price.
- Slope and roof condition
- Walls, valleys, vents and skylights
- Sun, wind and salt-air exposure
Deck prep and underlayment
On a replacement, the old roof comes off and we check the deck closely, since metal panels show every dip and hump beneath them. Underlayment suited to the heat under metal then goes down across the roof.
- Soft or uneven spots addressed per your scope
- Photos taken before panels go on
Panels, clips and seams
Each panel is set straight and square and held by concealed clips that grip the seam while leaving the metal room to move. The seams are then locked together along their full length.
- Clip spacing and fastening to spec
- Panel ends cut and hemmed cleanly
- Seams engaged from ridge to eave
Trims, flashings and closures
We finish the eaves, rakes, ridge, valleys and walls with matching trims and flashings, and seal the open ends of the panels with closures that keep out wind-driven rain, pests and debris.
- Eave, rake and ridge trims
- Valley, wall and chimney flashings
- Pipe and vent flashings made for metal
Final walkthrough
We look over the finished roof together, including photos of the deck and underlayment now hidden under the panels, and talk through your 10-year workmanship warranty.

Why Choose QRS for Standing Seam Roofing?
Standing seam shows every shortcut in the finished panels, so we don’t take any. Each install is backed by the QRS Guarantee, our 10-year workmanship warranty.
A straight answer on fit
A roofer checks your slope, flashings and exposure before recommending metal, and tells you plainly if another roof would suit your home better.
Installed to move with heat
Clips, trims and flashings are set so the panels can expand and contract without binding, which helps the roof stay straight and tight through hot summers.
Photos of the hidden layers
You see the deck and underlayment before the panels cover them, then the finished seams, trims and flashings, so you know what’s under your roof, not just what’s on it.
Repairs too
If a metal roof you already have starts to leak, we can find the cause and repair it, with photos. See metal roof repair.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about standing seam metal roofing.
How is standing seam different from other metal roofs?
The biggest difference is the fasteners. Exposed-fastener metal panels are screwed through their face and rely on rubber washers that break down in the sun, while standing seam hides its fasteners under the seams. That leaves fewer openings for water and a cleaner look from the street.
Is a standing seam roof noisy when it rains?
Not usually on a home. Over a solid deck with underlayment and an insulated attic, rain on metal sounds much like rain on other roofs. The drumming people remember comes from panels over open framing, like a barn, which is also what you’ll hear under a metal patio cover.
What is oil-canning, and can you prevent it?
Oil-canning is a slight waviness that can appear in the flat part of metal panels, most visible in low, raking light. It’s cosmetic and doesn’t change how the roof sheds water. No installer can rule it out entirely, but a flat deck, careful handling and clips that aren’t fastened too tight keep it to a minimum, and panels with light ribbing in the flats make it harder to see.
Can standing seam go on a low-slope roof?
Often, yes. Some standing seam panels are designed for lower slopes than shingles or tile can handle, but the panel and seam type have to match the pitch. We confirm your slope first, and if metal isn’t the right fit, a flat roofing system may suit it better.
Does standing seam cost more than a shingle roof?
Usually, at least up front. The panels, trims and specialized labor cost more than an asphalt shingle roof, and the final price depends on your roof’s size, shape and details. Your written scope shows the price before any work starts, and if you’d like to compare, we can also scope a shingle roof replacement for the same roof.
